My tube doodle...

I was messing around sketching the other day and ended up doodling a typical day on the London Tubes for me.

I am the miserable one in the glasses giving everyone else dirty looks. It is not that I am an angry person, I just very irritated by some people when I am in close confinement with them... That doesn't make me sound like a particularly great person, but you know what I mean right?... Right?

If I get the time I want to get this one artworked up, but it all depends how my workload goes.

I have just taken a massive block booking of freelance design work which will take me up to the New Year, but I will try to keep drawing and doodling as much as I can over the next few months.

I am planning to start a little personal project in the New Year involving a comic strip, but I will have to see how I get along. I will keep you posted though.

Oh yeah, a new Dan Hunt cartoon will be posted over the weekend and so why not come back then and check him out :)

For those of you who aren't aware, the identities of the SAS soldiers are withheld from the public domain and they often take on a pseudonym. If their pictures are ever used in documentation you will always notice that either their eyes are covered by a black box or their whole face is blurred.

I love the use of the black box over the eyes, as you can literally still see every other feature of the soldier in question, which seems a little bizarre. You can pick up any Special Forces book and see some great examples of these. Bravo Two Zero has some classics!

Dan Hunt

A few months back I mentioned about a character I was working on called Dan Hunt.

The concept behind this hit me just over a year ago when I was reading up on the British SAS. Basically, these guys are trained to be the most elite soldiers in the world, and put their lives on the line day in and day out, in situations and environments that we could never even dream of. I was wondering how these soldiers would then react to the transition of coming back into everyday life, dealing with situations which we would find perfectly normal and how they would use their trained skills in this society.

I thought this idea could have some potential to make a series of humorous cartoons and to date I have about 50 lined up to create.

I would like to point out that this idea has only been done as a bit of fun and has not been created to mock these soldiers. I have the upmost respect for the British Military and am so proud of the job they do protecting our country.

Above is the character design for Dan Hunt and in my next post I'll upload the first cartoon of many.

Future projects

As I've been so slack of late, I thought I'd quickly upload this sketch to keep you all up-to-date as to some of the stuff I will be working on in the future.

The above sketch is a real rough at the moment, but I need to develop it and then get it drawn up on my Mac. It is a chap having a bit of religious moment.
This next sketch is a real sneak preview of some thing I will be publishing on here in the coming weeks.

I won't elaborate too much at the moment, but it is project I have worked on for a little while which I would LOVE to get published.

This character is the lead guy and is called Dan Hunt... For now, I'll leave it at that. But check back soon and all will be revealed.

Have a great weekend!

Dan
