I have managed to get a few days off this week to coincide with the World Cup, though after today I wish I hadn't bothered.
On the positive side of things though, I have been able to work on a few illustrations. They have mainly been initial sketches, though I have completed one illustration which I will be uploading onto iStock within the next few days. So don't forget to check out my iStock portfolio when you get the chance.

Rootin' Tootin' Cowboy
I have been able to finish the illustration of the Cowboy that I previewed earlier in the week and have previewed it for you here.
It will be available to purchase from iStock within the next few days. I hope to have a few more sketches of future illustrations posted up soon, as well as further installments from my Dan Hunt cartoons.
I will be thinking of a proper name for that soon, as I don't want to keep referring to it as 'Dan Hunt', as that is just the characters name and not what I want the overall concept to be called.
Any way, enjoy your weekend!

Dan Hunt
A few months back I mentioned about a character I was working on called Dan Hunt.
The concept behind this hit me just over a year ago when I was reading up on the British SAS. Basically, these guys are trained to be the most elite soldiers in the world, and put their lives on the line day in and day out, in situations and environments that we could never even dream of. I was wondering how these soldiers would then react to the transition of coming back into everyday life, dealing with situations which we would find perfectly normal and how they would use their trained skills in this society.
I thought this idea could have some potential to make a series of humorous cartoons and to date I have about 50 lined up to create.
I would like to point out that this idea has only been done as a bit of fun and has not been created to mock these soldiers. I have the upmost respect for the British Military and am so proud of the job they do protecting our country.
Above is the character design for Dan Hunt and in my next post I'll upload the first cartoon of many.

Yee-haaa
Well, I was hoping that my next post onto my blog would be a beautifully crafted watercolour by yours truly.
But after spending this afternoon battling with this medium, it became pretty clear that I was getting no where fast and the only thing I was creating was a mess. I will continue to have a play with them, though if I am honest I am not so sure they are the right medium for me. Don't get me wrong, watercolours can produce absolutely stunning results when used by an expert... But I am no expert, though I will certainly give them another go. And when I do produce something that I am not utterly ashamed of, I'll be sure to post it on here.
The image I wanted to be my first watercolour masterpiece is this sketch here. I have also enclosed the very original scamp, which I created before I did the final sketched composition. With my watercolour pride currently shot to pieces, I think I will end up producing this as a digital piece which I will certainly upload on here when it is finished.
I hope you like it.

Chloe Noonan Fan art
Over the years I have been lucky to know some amazingly talented people, but of all
of these Marc Ellerby is one of the most standout that I have come across.
Anyone who has stumbled across my blog before knows how high I regard the talent
that Marc possesses and his pure desire and dedication for his art is nothing short of incredible.
For those of you who have never come across Marc before, he is one of the UK's biggest rising comic book talents and you can check his work out at www.marcellerby.com or read his weekly web comic at www.ellerbisms.com.
Marc is finally starting to get the recognition for his talents and he has recently been nominated for an Eagle Award, which are like the BAFTAs of the comic industry.
If you get a spare few minutes I really do encourage you to check him out (his work that is). His comics are packed with so much humour and emotion that you can't help but get absorbed into the world he has created.
I recently promised Marc that I would do some fan art of one of his characters, Chloe Noonan, and have included it in this posting.
I wanted to take the personality and concept of Chloe and portray her through my eyes.
As you can see from the original sketch, I ended up changing her expression as she is generally a more moody character then I had originally shown and personally I think it works a lot better with this change done.
I must admit I was concerned my original sketch resembled Garth from Wayne's World a little too much, but thankfully once I artworked her she became a little less Garth-like.
I am aiming to produce some watercolour illustrations next week and will post these as soon as they are done. Please bear with me on these as I haven't used watercolours since I was about 12 years old and so they be a bit ropey.
Have a great weekend!

Doodle
I've been thinking of updating the banner on my blog for a while now, but have always managed to be too busy. Though when I did have the time, I always seemed to forget to do it and have just ended up playing Call of Duty on my Xbox and getting my ass kicked by some 12 year old.
Initially I wanted to create something 'doodle-based' to reflect the nature of the site, but after quickly roughing out this illustration (above) I felt it may get a little lost and so I decided to use one of my previously created images.
I have also updated the design a little, as Blogspot have finally made their templates a little easier to revise. Though there are still some elements which I can't seem to change for love nor money (like getting rid of these pesky shadows from around my images), but I will leave that rant for another day.
I hope you enjoy the new look.

School Dinners
A few weeks ago I uploaded a sketch of a School Dinner lady serving up lunch to some rather disappointed children.
After a busy few weeks, I have just got the illustration complete and thought I would get it uploaded for you to have a look at. It ended up taking quite a while to complete as some of the background elements proved to be quite intricate and quite time consuming, but it was certainly worth the time spent on it. I also removed one of the front characters from the illustration as I felt it was getting a little cluttered.
The illustration will be available to purchase from iStock in the next week or so, but here is a preview of it and also a close up of the Dinner Lady character (just so you can have a better view).
